The United Futbol Club (Uinted FC) is a non profit competitive club based in Southern Orange County. The club is a proud member of the California Youth Soccer Association and Coast Soccer League. As a result, the competition is among the finest in the United States. The United Futbol Club has a rich tradition of soccer heritage dating back to 1983 formerly known as the San Juan Soccer Club. The UFC prides itself on providing quality instruction, a premier facility, role model coaching and a Board of Directors dedicated to ensuring the long lasting success of the Club.
In 1982, a group of high school boys from the San Juan Capistrano area had a loosely organized soccer team where they had played in the Pacific League for one season. They played in tee shirts, whatever shorts they could find the day of the game, tennis shoes and a few even wore soccer cleats. The team had little or no direction, leadership, or sponsorship.
The boys approached Mario Cuevas after their season and asked him to become their coach and manager. The boys wanted to play organized soccer and become a “real team”. After signing on in 1983, Mario had a discussion with his friend, Monsignor Martin of the Mission San Juan Capistrano Church. Mario spoke of this group of boys who wanted to play organized soccer and he explained the financial needs of the boys. Following their conversation, Monsignor made a personal donation/loan to the team. This $450.00 donation was used to purchase uniforms and to pay the entry fee into an organized soccer league.
In response to the kindness and generosity of Monsignor Martin and the Mission of San Juan Capistrano, Mario designed the logo for the San Juan Soccer Club to include the Mission and a San Juan Swallow as a gesture of thanks to their benefactors. In 1984, the San Juan Soccer Club held its first ever Memorial Day Soccer Tournament. This tournament was organized as a fundraiser to pay back the loan from Monsignor Martin and to help establish a scholarship fund for the local high schools. This tradition is continued today with over 240 teams participating in the tournament and a portion of the tournament proceeds donated to the Capistrano Unified School District to be given to the local high schools.
SJSC changed to United FC in the 2004-2005 season. This identity change reflected the Club's direction for the future. In addition, it clarified the fact that we are not a community based club but a highly competitive youth soccer organization for Southern California's top players. Although we have changed to the UFC the ideals depicted in our former logo are still maintained. The serenity of San Juan Capistrano with it's famous Mission San Juan Capistrano, the swallows and rolling hills providing the setting for one of the premier soccer sites in Southern California.
