Bio: Joshua Stringer has dedicated his professional career to working with children. For the past 20 years Josh has worked with boys and girls either on the soccer field or in the classroom.
Josh started coaching at age 19 for the Fontana High School Girls' Program. At the same time he worked through college running an after school soccer program as part of Fullerton's Project Clean-Up for at-risk youth in Fullerton. After earning his Teaching Credential from CSUF Josh went on to teach and coach at Canyon High School eventually taking over the Boys' head coaching job in 2000. In 2001 Josh transferred schools to run the Model United Nations program at Laguna Hills High School. He also started coaching club soccer in 2001 with the Pateadores in Mission Viejo. From 2002-2005 Josh served as the Assistant Director of the Boys program for the SC Storm soccer club. In 2005 he joined United Futbol Club as a staff coach and quickly built one of the premier youth programs in southern California. Josh now serves as Assistant Director of Coaching for United FC's Boys program and is now a full time soccer coach training players across all ages. As a coach Josh believes he must lead by example and continually strive to improve. “Each year I push myself to be a better coach. In 2010 I travelled to Madrid with U.S. Soccer, in 2011 I earned my USSF National ‘B’ License and in 2012 I returned to Spain to attend a coaching course in Barcelona. I feel it is my responsibility to provide an example for my players by setting a standard for excellence with my dedication to the coaching profession. I wholeheartedly look forward to implementing what I have recently learned from the Spanish FA, the staff coaches at Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid , Getafe, the USSF staff, and Barcelona USA instructors into the curriculum at United. Our newly formed partnership with Chivas USA is another great opportunity for me to grow as a coach. Gaining an understanding of how an MLS team views player development is another asset I will have in servicing top level youth players in Orange County.”
Coach Stringer fell in love with the game at age 4 and has played ever since. In high school, as league MVP and All-CIF player, Josh's 31 goals helped Fontana High School achieve its first appearance in the CIF finals. He continued his play at California State University, San Bernardino starting at forward as a freshman and finishing second on the team in scoring. At 19 Josh had the privilege of playing with the Los Angeles Salsa organization on their reserve team. Starting at left defender he helped the East Los Angeles Cobras win the United States Interregional Soccer League's Western Division and finish fourth in the country at the USISL's Championship in Florida. Josh then transferred to California State University, Fullerton. At Fullerton he was recognized on the 1995 UCLA METLIFE Soccer Classic All-Tournament Team and earned the 1996 Big West Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.
Josh understands how soccer has enriched his life and works to pass that on to the next generation. "Soccer is a worldwide cultural phenomenon. As a youth player I had the privilege of playing soccer in fourteen states and five countries. As a coach I have had the privilege of traveling to several countries with youth teams and for educational trips. I have developed many friendships and learned much about myself and the world through this game. My desire is to facilitate similar life experiences for the players I coach. My goal with United FC is to educate young players and to inspire them to maximize their potential on and off the field. My greatest satisfaction is playing a role in the development of the fine young men I come across and knowing I had a part in shaping who they become. "
